J.K. Rowling: Book Review

Review of J.K. Rowling's published books, including the Harry Potter series and other texts written under pseudonyms.

With the success of her debut novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (first published on June 30, 1997 by Bloomsbury in London; Scholastic Corporation published an edition for citizens of the U.S. titled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 1998) author Joanne Kathleen Rowling spear-headed a magical phenomenon, now commonly referred to as "Potter Mania".

The Harry Potter series immediately captured the attention of children and adults alike; the books even became mandatory classroom reading in some elementary schools (for example, mine [Central Elementary School in Merritt, B.C.]). Children around the world were even known to write letters to one Professor Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, begging acceptance into this "prestigious" school of magic.

Proceeds from Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beats and Where to find Them go to Comic Relief, one of Britain's most successful and well-known charities.

“Comic Relief is one of Britain’s most famous and successful charities. Begin in 1985, the organization has raised more than $250 million for such charities as the Red Cross, Oxfam, Sight Savers, the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, and Anti-Slavery International. A special ‘Harry’s Books’ fund has been created where proceeds from the sale of Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them will go to support children’s causes throughout the world. Every book sold counts! Fifty cents will send a child to school for a week – and change his or her life forever” – A Note from J. K. Rowling. "Retrieved March 20, 2011 via .Bookbanter.Wordpress.com"
